Exhibition Overview

Tussen Geel en Blauw
(Between Yellow and Blue)

In a land washed with Delfts blauw, the stillness of porcelain skies surrounds her.
A small gele eendje (yellow duck) wanders, carrying the warmth of another thuis (home), the rhythm of another taal (language), the tenderness of a name whispered across oceans.

Here she drifts, not lost, but in-between, between herinneren (remembering) and becoming, between zorg (care) and courage. The tiles beneath her feet, the tiles full of stories, reflect both Seoul and Amsterdam. Each step leaves a faint trace of geel licht (yellow light), traces of leven (life).

Salon de Kunst sees in her journey more than migration, a quiet podium (stage) for encounters, a choreography of belonging unfolding through gesture, light, and pause.
Her past as a stage designer lingers here, not visible, but felt in how space luistert (listens), how colors ademen (breathe), how time is still for a moment.

This exhibition is not a scene, but a passage. We are invited to walk beside her, to follow the yellow boetafdrukken (footprints) through blue reflections,
to listen to the soft dialogue of water en lucht (water and air), and perhaps to ask,

Wat is jouw kleur vandaag?
(What is your color today?)

Artist Statement

Living as a small Korean woman, artist and mother in the Netherlands, I often find myself floating- moving gently between cultures, languages, and emotions.

The Yellowduck began as a self-portrait of that feeling: a small figure navigating a vast blue world. By dressing her in a Jobawi and a traditional vest, I bring fragments of Korea into this blue Dutch landscape. These garments — humble, intimate, and full of care — represent both protection and identity.

Against the delicate Delft Blue background, deeply rooted in Dutch tradition, the yellow duck - sometimes with her child - stands out as a warm pulse of life and humour. Together, they wander and always move forward through imagined landscapes that merge Korean memories with Dutch colours, creating a space that feels both foreign and familiar.

Through this little yellow duck, I seek to express the humour, nostalgia, and quiet courage that define the life of an immigrant woman — not as a story of loss, but of gentle transformation and becoming home.
